Scholarships at Ashland Community and Technical College

Ashland Community and Technical College believes that financial barriers should not stand in the way of someone seeking to better their life through higher education. To help current or potential students overcome that obstacle, ACTC has a wide variety of scholarship opportunities in addition to the traditional federal student loans.


Listed below are all the scholarship opportunities currently available at ACTC:

Ashland Chapter KY-AAWCC

Awarded to a female student enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours. The recipient must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5.

Agnes Burnette Johnson Scholarship Fund

Awarded to a graduate of Boyd County High School demonstrating a potential for academic excellence and a need for financial assistance. Student must be an ACTC freshman or sophomore.

Anne Kouns Student Aid Fund

Awarded to students demonstrating financial need and potential for academic success.

Ashland Kiwanis Club Scholarship Fund

Awarded to a student demonstrating a commitment to civic activities who is a graduate of Paul G. Blazer High School or Rose Hill Christian School. A second scholarship will be awarded to a nontraditional student.

Barbara Siebert Student Aid Fund

Awarded to students demonstrating financial need and potential for academic success.

Big Sandy Superstore Scholarship

Awarded to part-time and/or full-time undergraduate students who are either full-time active employees of Big Sandy Superstores or children of full-time active employees of Big Sandy Superstores.

Big Sandy/Robert Vanhoose Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time student majoring in business. Must be a resident of Boyd, Carter, Greenup, or Lawrence County, Kentucky; Lawrence County, Ohio; or Cabell County, West Virginia.

Bob and Pat Goodpaster Scholarship Fund

Awarded to non-traditional students who have children, demonstrate a potential for academic success and who are enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours per semester.

Booth Scholarship Fund

Scholarships awarded to students based on financial need and potential for academic success. Priority given to students enrolled or preparing for admission to RN, LPN, Surgical Technology or Pharmacy Technology programs. Scholarships awarded by Booth Foundation via Fairview Baptist Church.

Boyd County Medical Alliance - Diane Gussler Lobach Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to victims of domestic violence and single mothers pursuing a healthcare-related field.

Chellgren-Ashland Community College and Technical College Fund

First preference is given to current or former residents of the Ramey-Estep Home of Boyd County, who must demonstrate financial need and potential for academic success.

Commonwealth of Kentucky - Commonwealth Scholarship Fund

Awarded to recent high school valedictorians, salutatorians, or top 10 percent of graduating class. Renewable for one year.

Cooperative Programs Scholarship

Awarded to a limited number of Paul G. Blazer High School graduates who demonstrate academic excellence.

David N. Michalak Memorial Scholarship Fund

Awarded to students with a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale who have completed a minimum of 24 semester hours at ACTC.

Edward L. Buchanan Endowment Fund

Award available to students enrolled in the nursing program, who demonstrate satisfactory academic progress.

Fifth Third Bank Scholarship Fund

Award available to a student who indicates interest in a banking or business career.

G & J Pepsi Cola Bottling Scholarship Fund

Awarded to students who are in need of financial assistance.

Goldie M. Wilson Scholarship Fund

Awarded to a student demonstrating potential for academic success.

Herb & Alene Bogg Alban Scholarship 

Awarded to a student demonstrating potential for academic success and interested in a business career.

John T. Smith Minority Scholarship: Minorities from Kentucky

Awarded to recognize outstanding African-American residents of Kentucky. Grade point average, rank in class, ACT scores and extra-curricular activities are considered.

Joseph and Sylvia Mansbach Scholarship Fund

Awarded to students who demonstrate potential for academic success, show financial need, and/or work at least 10 hours per week during the academic term(s). Recipient must demonstrate academic progress toward their educational goals.

KCTCS President’s Scholarship Fund

Awarded to a graduate of Kentucky high schools according to ACTC scholarship guidelines.

Kentucky Colonels Better Life Scholarship Fund

Awarded to a non-traditional student from Kentucky. Recipient must be a single working parent with one or more children under the age of 12 who demonstrates enthusiasm for learning, potential for academic success and a need for financial assistance.

Kentucky Power Scholarship Fund

Awarded to a non-traditional student who demonstrates need and academic excellence. Recipient must be from Kentucky and a full-time, degree-seeking student.

Lincoln & Katherine Morgan Scott Scholarship Fund

Awarded to graduates of Boyd and Lewis counties demonstrating a potential for academic success and a need for financial assistance.

Lou Eastham Scholarship Fund

Awarded to a graduate of Boyd County High School demonstrating a potential for academic excellence and a need for financial assistance; student must be an ACTC freshman or sophomore.

Lysbeth Barnett Scholarship Fund

Awarded to an outstanding student majoring in business management with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better based on a 4.0 system.

Robert B. Hilton Education Trust

Awarded to a high school graduate who has resided in Boyd County for at least three years. Applicants must be enrolled in a 'transfer curriculum' and demonstrate financial need.

Ruie Kennard Kelley Endowment Scholarship Fund

Awarded to a student demonstrating potential for academic success.

Scholarship and Talent Grant Endowment

Awarded to deserving full-time or part-time ACTC students. Awards include scholarships, talent grants and emergency loans.

Sharon Kaplan Simons Memorial Scholarship for Non-Traditional Students

Awarded to students who work, take a minimum of six hours per term and who seek an Associate or Baccalaureate degree. Recipient must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and demonstrate a need for financial assistance.

Theodore & Bennie Shields Scholarship Fund

Awarded to a graduate of Boyd County High School who has demonstrated potential for academic success and requires financial assistance to attend college, and who maintains a minimum GPA of 3.0 based on a 4.0 grading system. At least 50 percent of the scholarships granted must be to female recipients.

YWCA Scholarship Fund

Awarded to female students who reside in Boyd or Greenup County who are deserving and in need of financial aid. Recipient shall maintain at least a B average and also must apply for Pell funding.
